Jars of Clay

“But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this
all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.” (2 Cor. 4:7)

Recently, I thought I should create a great website (this one! :)). While scouring the web for ideas, I came upon an online shop that sells inspirational Christian posters, and I was so impressed I decided to buy a few! You will find them dotted around Maisha, on your next visit. I hope you find them as inspiring as I did!

One of the posters starts out by posing a question: Do you SERIOUSLY think God can’t use you? It then lists reasons why this must be untrue, citing examples of “dysfunctional” individuals through the bible:

  • Noah was a drunk;
  • Abraham was too old;
  • Isaac was a daydreamer;
  • Jacob was a liar;
  • Leah was unattractive;
  • Joseph was abused;
  • Moses had a stuttering problem;
  • Gideon was afraid;
  • Samson had long hair and was a womanizer;
  • Rahab was a prostitute;
  • Jeremiah and Timothy were too young;
  • David had an affair and was a murderer;
  • Elijah was suicidal;
  • Isaiah preached naked;
  • Jonah ran from God;
  • Naomi was a widow;
  • Job went bankrupt;
  • Peter denied Christ;
  • The disciples fell asleep while praying;
  • Martha worried about everything;
  • The Samaritan woman was divorced;
  • Zaccheus was too small;
  • Paul was too religious;
  • Timothy had an ulcer;
  • Lazarus was DEAD.

The bottom line: if God was able to use all of these people to do some pretty amazing things for His Kingdom, He can certainly use YOU!

I am humbled and encouraged to know that, though I am weak and flawed – and over and over again I fall short of what He requires of me – God, in His divine mercy and in the mystery of His plan, can still use me. In fact, when I am weak, I’m strong!
